There are diffrent types of Yams.
The one popularly called Red Yam or Yellow Yam is Ikpen
The Medicinal Red / yellow Yam is Eru,
Water Yam is called Igiorua
White Yams are called Emowe, Omi, Ikale, Ahebun, Ezekuhunkpolore, Iyawo, Iyawo Omorotionmwan. Some white Yams are also called Ukpoko, Abakeleke etc.
Newly harvested Yams from July to December are called Iyan Emoro while Yams that are already tied in a Barn (Eru) as from January to July are called Iyunkhunmwun
